The Republic of Honduras is a country that benefits from the fact that it has coasts on both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It also shares borders with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. And as with those countries they have a common history with a pre-Columbian epoch dominated by the Mayans, the Spanish conquest and independence in the Nineteenth Centuries. They even had a large number of civil wars and rebellions. This political uncertainly has contributed greatly to an economic situation where there is both great poverty and associated unemployment. Currently however, the unemployment rate stands at just 4.9% and a GDP annual growth rate of a healthy 3.5%. It does, however, have a debt to GDP of 46% and is a net importer of goods and services.
