Yes, you can, but expect us to carry it on a no-compensation basis.
Our prohibited items list includes free-standing furniture as being one category of parcels that we can help you ship, but only on a no-compensation basis. The reason for this is that often furniture can be very expensive and susceptible to damage.
We'd love to guarantee that all furniture is packed with no chance of damage, but seeing as we're not involved in the packaging process, we just can't do that.
Furthermore, because we're talking about couriers who use automated and bulk systems, there is a chance that something may go wrong. As a responsible company, we've done the calculations and have concluded that it'd be uneconomical for us to send furniture via a courier as we'd end up losing money.
Of course, we're a business, and we can't do that, so we allow you to send a courier service for furniture, just we can't pay out any compensation if things do go wrong (within our terms and conditions)
If the price is your primary concern and perhaps convenience is your second, then a properly packaged item of furniture can be sent by a traditional courier at a reasonable rate. For larger pieces of furniture then the same day courier services we have listed should offer significant advantages as you will essentially be hiring a man (or women) with a van for the moving.
For relatively short distances in the capital then this is likely to be cheaper than a specialist company. If you have relatively few possessions and are moving home, then this can often be more convenient than trying to find a family member to help relocate your worldly goods.
Just as is the case with bikes, we can't arrange delivery for unboxed furniture. It stands to reason really as we're talking about a massive risk of damage. If you have a flat pack bed or one that has been taken apart and packaged correctly our large courier specialist services are on hand to help. Likewise, we can help you a set of draws or a wardrobe as long as they have been taken apart and are ready to be shipped as a flat pack.
We don't think any of our customers would ever decide they would try and send unboxed furniture, but just to make sure, we've completely excluded that type of parcel from the types of parcels we can help get delivered for you.
You can choose our typical large and cumbersome couriers through DX.
