The Republic of the Union of Myanmar is a country that was formerly known as Burma and is located in South East Asia and borders India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Laos and China and has a population similar to that of the UK at around 52 million.
In 1989 the ruling military government did away with many of the English colonial traditions and cultures and part of this was the renaming of the country to Myanmar, which had a closer resemblance to the proper name of the local ethnic group, whilst 'Burma' was more related to the colloquial name of the race.
As can be seen, Myanmar and previously Burma has had a rich, varied and troubled history but with the recent changes in its politics and a newly elected government this previously undiscovered destination is growing as a tourist destination and this, in turn, means the number of goods imported is on the rise, with more and more people looking for cheap parcel delivery to this fascinating country.
Costs to send a parcel to Myanmar are similar to other countries in the region and for a 1kg small parcel would only cost around £30 whereas beforehand it was more difficult and expensive to ship parcels here. A 10kg parcel to Myanmar, previously Burma would now only set you back a figure of around £90, whereas before prices started from £200+.
We have a selection of international courier services to deliver parcels to locations such as Yangon and Mandalay, such as DHL, TrakPak and our very own Air Express solution from Parcel Monkey.
Currently, the US has sanctions on Burma (pdf), whilst EU sanctions were suspended (pdf) (HM Treasury update) on 14th May 2012. Although trade with Burma is obviously light given the recent lifting of sanctions, the British Government, via the UK Trade & Investment department is keen to help business trade with the nation. You can find out more about that here.
Check that you have also followed our own Customs Advice.
Always provide a full description of your items on a Customs Form and also a working contact number in the destination.
Fast shipment, I will use it again for sure. But tracking facility is useless.
Very good delivery time (delivered on 4th day after pick-up, including weekend). Only gripe is that I had to wait in all day for the pick up which did not specify morning or afternoon and eventually took place at 6pm.
no complaints at all - package arrived in Burma without fuss or delay
Efficient and reliable service, thank you.
Instructions were clear, pick up was on time and the delivery was at the shorter end of your estimate. All in all an excellent service.
