Update: during the summer of 2014 we completely reconfigured the courier booking process to make it much easier to compare prices on couriers. When you submit your parcel's dimensions and where you would like it to be delivered you will be met with a list of the most popular courier services. This list shows the service name, the price, its specific features, the latest five customer reviews, an aggregate score across all those customers that have rated it, whether you would need a printer and how long you have left to book it for the soonest collection or drop off.
Across of the top of the page you will see a range of tabs - with 'Popular' selected. The first links through to our separate same day delivery offering, then you also have an extended list of parcel delivery companies that offer next day shipping. To the right of that we offer a price comparison on ' Priority' services - these usually entail having your parcel delivered earlier in the morning, on a Saturday or Sunday. We then list the prices of services where you can drop your parcel off at either a courier depot, Post Office (only for international deliveries) or at secure locker sites. The last tab are the options for customers who are sending their parcels within the UK, but to locations with specific services, such as Isle of Wight, Guernsey, Jersey and Northern Ireland.
It pays to shop around and the best way to do that is to check out the available prices here.
When you set yourself the task to compare parcel delivery prices it’s important to start off from the point of knowing what level of service you would like. When you visit the Post Office, for example, you often don’t know beforehand the name of the service you require.
Thankfully when you use the Parcel Monkey parcel delivery service to compare prices we make the process very simple. You can choose from a next day by 6pm with or without a money back guarantee, a courier service that gets there before 1pm the next day, or a Saturday delivery before 1pm. It’s that simple.
One level of service that you may not be able to find elsewhere is the same day collection service that is available for order completed by 10:30 am Monday – Friday. Comparing prices for parcel delivery services is actually a lot simpler than you may at first think. Your parcel has set dimensions and you need it at its destination by a certain time – as such we make the process of booking your parcel delivery company very simple. You just start the process with a very short courier quotes form where you are given a selection of different courier service levels and then it’s just a case of giving your and the recipient’s details - simple.
Recently we've added a new service which some of you have seen appear in the courier selection page (the one after you put your parcel's weight in). This service is the uppermost one: ByBox. Now this is a revolutionary product. When you book a parcel to be shipped you can decide whether you would like to drop it off at a secure locker which you can find in places like supermarkets, shopping centres and sports clubs. When you book you can choose the locker closest to you. When you have done this you will be asked for your mobile phone number for us to text your PIN number too. This should be used in conjunction with the specific parcel label and will allow you to place your parcel in the locker and instruct the ByBox team that your parcel needs to be collected. The recipient will also need to their details added so they,
too, can have secure details sent them to access the parcel in their nearest locker. At the time of writing there are approximately 500 dotted around the country - with this number due to grow rapidly over the next few years. The best of this service, though, is the price: only £4.49+vat for delivery generally within 48 hours.
But if you don't like the thought of dropping your parcel off in the middle of a busy supermarket, that's fine, we understand. We now also give you the opportunity to drop your parcel off at your local City Link or ParcelForce depot. Of course, that means you drop off your parcel off at a City Link depot if your order is to be filled with them and vice versa with ParcelForce.
So the crux of the matter is: when you compare prices make sure you are comparing like-for-like and determine how much of the shipping process you are expected to do yourself.
Some companies have high prices but then offer you a voucher code to make it look like you're getting a great deal. We've done some analysis and we're still 18% cheaper than our nearest competitors on UK next day deliveries - even after they've given you a 7% voucher code!!
We now offer £50 worth of courier insurance, other courier quote services and parcel delivery companies only offer £20 or £25 and then charge you to take it up to £50 and beyond. Make sure you take that into account when you decide what the cheapest option is.
