Any tips for booking a parcel delivery company to send some clothing?
Even though clothing isn't normally fragile there is still some advice it would be worth taking note of.
It's very interesting to see the number of parcels we send throughout the year from our eBay-seller customers who sell clothing within the country and especially abroad when Christmas comes around. But how can you increase the chances of getting the clothes you’re selling or giving to reach their destination safely and securely?
We do have a generic help page about packaging but specifically for those people looking to send clothing via a courier, here are things to consider:
-
If you're sending items to friends and family and its worth considering what else you're packing with the clothes, if anything. We don't allow liquids, paint, aerosols, food, wine etc. as they can damage other parcels going through the system. But if you were tempted to try and slip it though you would risk damaging the clothes you're sending too.
-
For those of you who are just sending a couple items such as shirts, a jumper, a pair of jeans etc., then you might want to consider our special bag rate which could save you around £1. Your item just needs to fit into a Citypack, jiffy bag or mailing bag (not plastic bags) which is no larger than 50cm x 40cm and weighs less than 10kg to be able to use this service though.
-
Have a good think about the robustness of your packaging. Typically A4 envelopes won't survive the parcel delivery process because the odd shape of clothes typically creates areas where it can easily catch, whilst padded envelopes and mailing bags should be fine. We suggest, however, that you recycle cardboard boxes and ensure that they're well-taped.
-
Think about any buttons etc. It would be a good idea to secure the clothing well as fashion-buttons and any other additional bits and bobs my knock about inside the box and have its shine removed.
-
Can you send clothing abroad? We've established that the Argentinian customs authorities restrict the importation of clothing and Antigua won't allow you to import camouflage clothing.. You might which to explore any restrictions before you send a parcel abroad.
