It's surprising when we look at our data just how many parcels we send to Norway given the population is only half of that of London at just under 5,000,000. It's probably because many British people have gone over there for work and a good number of Norwegians have come here for similar reasons.
Norway has an economy based on its natural resources such as oil, natural gas and minerals, as well as the fish in its coastal waters. Furthermore, even though they have rejected membership of the European Union, unlike Finland they still have strong economic ties with the other countries in the region.
Perhaps another reason why we see so many parcels being sent to Norway may be that our prices are incredibly cheap. For example, a 1kg parcel sent via DHL Air Express on a one to two day service can cost just £17.49 whilst you can save £3 by sending it via DHL Road Express which is a three to four day service. For those of you who'd prefer to send their parcel via ParcelForce, you can do so on the same four day period for £20.20.
Because Norway isn't in the EU, any import to the country will be treated just as an import from any other country. There are some rules, therefore, that you should be aware of, such as you can't import alcoholic beverages with more than 60% of alcohol by volume without permission, such as potatoes, birds, plants and meat - all of which are prohibited from carriage due to our own rules anyway.
You can find out more about the restrictions from the Toll Customs website or calling (+47) 0 30 12.
